Granit Studio: from memory card to portfolio, without a single export

Granit Studio, Granit's desktop app, imports, culls and edits all your images, then publishes them straight to your catalogue and portfolio. No exports, no re-uploads, hosted in Europe.

Insert the memory card. Cull. Edit. It's live.

No exports. No dragging files to your website. No re-uploading the day you revisit an edit. Granit Studio is Granit's desktop app: it imports, culls and edits all your images, then publishes them straight to your catalogue, portfolio pages and private projects. Available on Mac for now (macOS 12 or later, Apple silicon and Intel alike), it's included in your subscription.

Camera, iPhone, scanner or design software: JPEG, HEIC, PNG, film scans or RAW, it all goes through the same app.

Why almost nobody does this

The market is split in two. On one side, portfolio platforms: they stop at the storefront. You edit somewhere else, export, upload, and start over with every correction. On the other, editing software: it stops at the export. Whatever happens next isn't its problem.

To bridge the two, Adobe remains the benchmark, by combining two products: Lightroom to edit, Adobe Portfolio to publish. Granit takes the opposite route: one app, one account, one subscription.

To our knowledge, no other platform today brings together a desktop app to import and edit, a catalogue you can search by meaning, a portfolio on your own subdomain and private spaces for your contacts, all hosted in Europe.

Import: the memory card is all it takes

Insert a card: Granit Studio recognizes it and offers to import. It's read, never written to. The app remembers what it has already sent, so there are no duplicates when you insert the same card again, and it can eject the card once everything is online.

Working from a drive? Drag a folder and it becomes a collection. Set up watched folders: every new file goes up on its own.

Cull: hundreds of images in minutes

Past ten files, the culling table opens. Ratings from 1 to 5, P to pick, X to reject, bursts grouped together. Your Lightroom, Capture One or in-camera ratings carry over as they are. Only the images you keep go online.

Edit: adjustments measured against Camera Raw

JPEG, HEIC, PNG, scan or RAW: every image is edited with the same tools, the ones you'd expect from a modern darkroom:

  • light and tone curves, point by point and per channel;
  • color mixer, black-and-white mix, color grading;
  • texture, clarity, dehaze, sharpening, vignette, grain;
  • batch editing, before/after comparison, 100% view, clipping warning.

Your RAW files are developed on your machine in 16-bit, with white balance, noise reduction and lens correction.

Three tools make the difference:

  • Remove erases a dust spot or a passer-by, by healing or cloning, with no generative AI. Nothing is invented in your image.
  • Auto straighten reads the lines in the image and levels the horizon.
  • Auto learns from your own edits on similar images. It looks like you, not like everyone else.

The original is never touched: editing is non-destructive, and you can go back to it at any time.

Your looks: film, and everything you already had

24 built-in looks, inspired by 14 film stocks (Kodak Portra 400, Ektar 100, CineStill 800T, Ilford HP5 Plus, Kodak Tri-X 400…) and 10 Fujifilm film simulations, from Classic Chrome to Reala Ace.

Best of all, you leave nothing behind. Import your Lightroom presets, creative profiles (RNI, VSCO…) and .cube LUTs: everything lands in a single library, as thumbnails, adjustable from 0 to 200%, and follows you across your account.

Built for film

Invert your scanned negatives and remove the orange mask. Bring an old scan back to life, like this 1997 skate contest: contrast, blacks, dehaze.

The film roll notebook records, for each collection, the film stock, camera, lab, scanner, push or pull, and can show the camera and film stock under every media in your portfolio. And if two film rolls get mixed up in an upload, Granit warns you before you regret it. To go further: our guide to film stocks.

Publish: one edit, and everything is up to date

This is where everything changes. When you finish an edit, Granit Studio renders the web version and the full-resolution delivery version, then uploads them. Your portfolio pages, collections and private projects show the new version straight away, and the private project keeps a record of the edit in its history.

Revisit an image you published six months ago: it updates everywhere, without hunting for it page by page.

From the app, you can also find any media in your own words with semantic search, show similar media, and export a selection in the background: size presets, quality, credit, file name.

A desktop app in its own right

  • An image engine written in Rust, running on your machine.
  • Signed and notarized by Apple, updated automatically.
  • macOS menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, Quick Look with ⌘I.
  • Offline, it keeps your edits and resumes uploads as soon as you're back online.
  • Your images are hosted in Europe and are not used to train third-party models.

Frequently asked questions

Granit's desktop app, available on Mac for now. It imports, culls and edits all your images (JPEG, HEIC, PNG or RAW) and publishes them straight to your catalogue, portfolio and private projects, with no export or re-upload.

Does Granit Studio cost extra?

No, it's included in your Granit subscription at no extra cost. Download it from your dashboard, and it then updates itself.

Is there a Windows version?

Yes. Lightroom presets, creative profiles (RNI, VSCO…) and .cube LUTs join a single looks library, adjustable from 0 to 200%. Your Lightroom and Capture One ratings also carry over when you cull.

Can Granit Studio replace Lightroom?

For importing, culling, editing and publishing, it covers the whole workflow, with a portfolio and private spaces on top. Since it carries over your Lightroom ratings and presets, you can switch without starting from scratch.

Are my original files modified?

Never. Editing is non-destructive: the original stays intact and you can go back to it at any time. Memory cards are read, never written to.

What happens when I'm offline?

The app lets you know, keeps your edits and resumes uploads as soon as you're back online. Nothing is lost.
